The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder, Senior Corporate Vice President of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. The Foundation is dedicated to the belief that through innovative clinical and genetic research, breast cancer can ultimately be prevented and a cure can be found.

A minimum of 85% of all funds raised by the Foundation goes directly to breast cancer research and awareness programs. BCRF has received four stars (the highest possible rating) by Charity Navigator and an "A+" by the American Institute of Philanthropy. The numbers speak for themselves. 100% of the Play for P.I.N.K. proceeds go to BCRF.

In 2009, the American Cancer Society estimated that 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer would be diagnosed in women, and 40,170 women will die. In men, 1,910 new cases of breast cancer were expected, with 440 deaths.

Since inception, the foundation has raised more than $285 million to support research at cancer centers across the globe conducting the most advanced and promising breast cancer research into new therapies and genetic links that will help lead to a prevention and a cure. In October, 2009 the Foundation awarded nearly $28.5 million in new grants.
